WWE Royal Rumble 2009

I've been a big WWE fan from my childhood and as I've tried to remain as child like as possible, my liking for macho men wearing skimpy womens clothing has stayed with me through the years. On Sunday night we saw my favourite PPV of the year when WWE presented it's annual Royal Rumble. Here are my quick thoughts on the show:

Matt Hardy vs Jack Swagger - ECW Title Match - I thought Hardy was going to win this one by DQ or count out in order for him to get revenge on the champion but it didn't happen. I've never seen Swagger before (ECW is lame) and I was impressed by his in ring performance. I knew that once Hardy had lost he was destined for something major.

Beth Phoenix vs Melina - Womens Title Match - Am I the only one who thinks that melina isn't really that hot? I have nothing but praise for Beth Phoenix because she really does carry the womens division on her own. I was a little underwhelmed by Melina's victory to be honest but I guess Beth needs to lose occasionally.

John Cena vs JBL with HBK in his corner - World Heavyweight Championship Match - Did anyone honestly think the machine that is John Cena would ever lose? I have a lot of respect for the man that is John Cena, he is a true professional, but the way he is booked is way over the top. Cena has all the cards stacked against him but still pulls out the win. Even with HBK in his corner, JBL sucked! Whilst I understand the reluctance to give JBL the title, Cena's cheesy gimmick is getting a little stale. I'd love to see Cena turn heel but that won't happen as long as there is merchandise to sell!

Edge vs Jeff Hardy - WWE Championship Match - We have a new champion and a brother vs brother feud in the making. As soon as Matt came out to the ring it was pretty obvious he was going to take his brother out. But the entire match I was just thinking to myself when will Christian Cage make his return? I was positive that Cage would be the one behind the recent attacks against Jeff, but it looks like it's Matt. Edge is a monster heel and I really hope he doesn't get stuck in another battle against Triple H. Hopefully with Jeff tied up with Matt, Edge can go and battle Christian Cage, if he ever returns that is!

30 Man Over The Top Royal Rumble - Randy Orton, with the help of his two bitches Cody and Ted wins the Rumble. I guess it had to be done, the past 4 or so Rumbles have been won by the good guys, it was about time. I marked out when RVD made a surprise entrance, I love surprises like that, totally out of the blue. I didn't really know who was going to win it, though I would have loved it to have been Chris Jericho but it wasn't to be. I spent the most part of the match thinking Christian was going to make a return, alas he didn't and Randy Orton ended up winning.

All in all, not bad, a decent Rumble match and a surprise ending to the Edge/Jeff Hardy match plus a cameo from RVD. Hopefully Christian makes his return soon!

Random laughs....

From the first season of 30 Rock in the episode 'The Source Awards' LL Cool J makes an appearance as rapper Ridiculous. After Liz accidently shoots her date all hell breaks loose and Ridiculous and his crew confront Jack.

Jack: "Good god Lemon you shot a Black!" No, no, no, it's cool that's his last name"
Ridiculous: "You gotta be kidding me Donaghy, first Mr Foley here disrespects me and then she shoots my business manager.
Business Manager: "I've got blood on my totes"
Ridiculous: "He's got blood on his totes, you're making a mockery of the Source Awards. Wait til I tell Tupac abouth this. Uh....Uhhh............"
Jack: "I didn't hear anything"

I loved that little 2pac reference! I also loved the fact that Jack went out with Condoleezza Rice! It's these little subtle gags that impress me most about this program.

Lost Season 5

I've seen the first episode of the new season of Lost. I came away thinking, that was AWESOME! However, I also sat there thinking to myself "what the hell just happened?" With most epsiodes of Lost, you think you have a handle on what's happening and then they just throw the biggest spanner in the works that you can ever imagine. Take for instance the climax to Season 4, we had a group of survivors heading off in a helicopter whilst others followed in a boat, we all thought there just might be a happy ending to the series right? No, they decided that would be too simple, so Ben Linus just moved the island! WTF? Seriously?

So from the opening episode it appears that when Ben moved the island, the inhabitants of the Island are now travelling through time? The likeable nerd Daniel Farraday and Desmind could be the saviours for the Islanders this year. Meanwhile back in reality, (or so we presume) Jack and Ben are forced to team up and take the remaining Islanders who escaped the Island back there. We see Sayid break Hurley out of the mental hospital and then give some random thugs a major arse whooping (the dishwasher move was awesome!) but it looks like Hurley could be one of Americas most wanted after having his face plastered all over the TV.

There was just so much going on that I had to go over to Lostpedia and read their epsiode recap to work out what really happened! Many have criticised the show for becoming so confusing and a few of my friends have stopped watching altogether, but I'm sticking with it!

What I'm watching...

Being here in the UK we often get US shows on at odd times on little watched sattelite channels, so sometimes a very good series could fly under the radar and we (or in this case I) are none the wiser. In fact two of my all time favourite shows The Wire and Jericho both aired here in the UK but came and went without a whimper, I only caught them later on the download.

I did some research on the net and went with a few shows that have had some good reviews. I've also tried to select shows that are still running (don't you hate it when you pick a series, immerse yourself in it and then find out it's finished?).

So here's what I'm currently watching....

30 Rock Season 1 - This one took a few episodes to get in to but Adam Baldwin's character Jack Donaghy is superb and his chemistry with Tina Fey works brilliantly. I'm up to epsiode 14 and loving it. Season 2 is already on order.

Reaper Season 1 - I started off loving this show but the monster of the week formula is a bit off putting. However Ray Wise is awesome as the Devil and it's a bonus that missy Pilgrym is hot! I watched the first 11 epsiodes and enjoyed them, but I am currently concentrating on 30 Rock so I will come back to the rest of the season at a later date.

How I Met Your Mother - If you thought Sock from Reaper was outrageous, he has nothing on Barney Stenson from HIMYM. The main crux of the show is the on/off relationship between Ted and Robyn with a great supporting cast of friends Lilly, Marshall and Barney keeping things fresh.

Bones Season 1 - This show is a tough one, whilst I like the two main characters, I'm still not in to the whole concept as yet. I've watched the first two shows and the jury is still out on this for me.
